And the baby kicks!

Yayyyy! My unborn child is 23 weeks, she now has finger nails and can event blink! Isn't that amazing. She also kicks and punches seem like its a 12 month old baby. However, I love feeling the kicks, it gives me some sort of affirmation that all is well in there. And yes, mini me also likes music, she (or he) slows down her movement when I play John Legend's all of me or Beyonce's Ave Maria. The movement of the baby can now be felt outside, when my husband and I place our hands on my belly, its a great feeling. I'm counting the days and weeks, can't wait to meet my little one.

Sex during pregnancy

It's been almost 20 weeks! The little one inside me seems to be doing well with a few kicks every other minute. So sex with my husband has been kind of non existent, but I don't want that. Although he isn't complaining, I kinda find him desirable while other times I just resent him for 'fertilizing' me. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that we are having a baby, but the though of the changes a woman's body goes through is frightening. Anyway I've been searching for safe ways to make out with my hubby during this delicate time and though to share:

WOMAN ON TOP
“Only you will know what feels good for your body, but this position is generally very safe and comfortable,” says Matty Silver. Here, you straddle your partner while he lies on the bed, taking in the glorious view of your pregnant belly. This is a great position during pregnancy as you’re in control of the depth of penetration, the speed (you can go as fast or slow as you like) and the movement.
SIDEWAYS
This position has you and your partner lying on your sides facing one another. Lying on your back is best avoided, according to Dr Haines. “When a pregnant woman is lying on her back – for sleep or for sex – the baby can suppress her vena cava, the big vein running through the abdomen, which can make her feel quite faint. Instead, it’s a good idea to be tilted to one side, slightly rolled over,” she says. Try pulling one leg up to allow room for your partner. This position is a winner because it keeps weight off your abdomen but supports your uterus at the same time. And it’s intimate, too, giving more belly visibility than some other getting-busy positions do.
SPOONING
This position requires you and your partner to lie on your sides, with your partner facing your back. Having him behind you allows his penis to go between your thighs and enter you from behind.
Bonus: there’s no pressure on your belly and the position allows for shallow penetration (deep penetration is sometimes uncomfortable as you get to the later stages of pregnancy).
FROM BEHIND
‘Doggy style’ allows for deeper penetration and is often very pleasurable for both parties. It involves you being down on hands and knees while your partner, who can be standing or kneeling behind you, enters from behind. And those decorative pillows on your bed will finally come in handy – use them to support your stomach and chest to stay comfy.
SITTING
A sturdy chair is required for this one! Get your partner to sit on it while you straddle him, either facing him or facing away. This position is a favourite during pregnancy as it keeps the pressure off your abdomen and is generally more comfortable than other athletic forms of intercourse (particularly the further you get into your pregnancy). No chair? Use the edge of the bed instead, suggests Matty Silver. Extra points for mirrored built-ins, where you can both enjoy the view!

My new found cravings - Roasted corn and pear

Yes! Now it's roasted corn and pear, there's this satisfaction I derive when I eat this. So on Sunday, I wanted roasted corn and pear so bad, I headed out in search for it, all the women that usually lined up at the corner on the road fanning the coal to keep the heat roasting the corn were not there, why, people don't eat corn on Sunday's! I almost cried. In the end I settled for chewing cornflakes and I definitely got my roasted corn and pear the following day.

Pregnancy boobs

One thing I was hoping for with the changes in the body during pregnancy was that my boobs don't get bigger. I was so wrong! My boobs which we already as big as Kim Kardashian's are now as big as Coco's (from Ice loves Coco), not to mention the stretch marks.

Wearing bras during this period is so uncomfortable, I have ordered a few maternity bras which I hope will be more comfortable. I intend to do an exclusive breast feeding so these Coco sized boobs had better be useful, as your know breastfeeding helps your uterus back to the original size and help's with loosing the baby fat.

Searching for maternity cloths

I consider myself a stylish person, I like to have nice clothes, not necessarily brand/designer clothes. As long as it looks good and feels comfortable, I'd buy it. It's about time I search for maternity cloths as my baby bump might double in size before my eyes. I like buying online, I've searched konga.com, jumia.com.ng but I can't seem to find stylish maternity dresses/clothes that are stylish especially because I want clothes I can still wear long after I've given birth and lost my baby weight.

Before I got pregnant, I used to shop on asos.com, they have a few stylish clothing for pregnant women but when I see one I like, it's either not available in my size or the price is way over my budget. And it takes 9 working days for your items to reach you as they are based in the UK, delivery is free though. My search still goes on, hopefully I'd find affordable maternity clothing soon.

The ultimate pregnancy to-do list: Second trimester

Came across this on babycenter.com and though to share:

Activities for your second trimester

Find a prenatal exercise class
If you haven't already, now is a good time to start a regular, pregnancy-friendly workout. Joining a class can help motivate you to stick with it. And many women find that prenatal exercise classes are a wonderful way to bond with and get support from other pregnant women. Some good options include water exercise, prenatal yoga or Pilates, a walking group, or a gentle dance class.

Learn about second-trimester prenatal visits and testsDuring the second trimester, you'll typically see your caregiver once every four weeks unless you have a condition or complications that call for more frequent checkups. You'll have blood tests, such as the glucose screening test to check for gestational diabetes, and you'll be offered screening tests or amniocentesis to test for Down syndrome as well as other chromosomal abnormalities, genetic disorders, and neural tube defects. You'll also likely see your baby in an ultrasound!

Start shopping for maternity clothes
Most moms-to-be start looking pregnant between 12 and 18 weeks. Even if you're not visibly preggers yet, you may find you're more comfortable in maternity clothes. Keep in mind that you'll probably need different batches of maternity clothes for different stages of your pregnancy, so it may make sense to buy just a few key pieces at a time and more as you need them.

Dear unborn child, mummy needs to sleep!

As you can imagine, sleeping becomes difficult when you are pregnant. As I'm currently in my second trimester, I can't sleep on my back or my tummy. I did a little research and found out a pregnancy pillow might help. My husband found one at a Mother Care store in Surulere, Lagos but it was quite expensive (for a pillow). I checked some online stores in the US and it's half the price it is in Lagos, so I've decided to wait for anyone I know who might be travelling to the US or coming from the US to Nigeria soon until I can get one. Hopefully sleeping will be easier!
